Who Owns AI's Output?
In November 2022, ChatGPT took the world by storm, demonstrating that a chatbot could be sufficiently refined to be practical and useful (unlike earlier attempts like Microsoft's disastrous Tay chatbot back in 2016). Now, after just two short years, generative AI technology has advanced by leaps and bounds, progressing quickly from simple text and image generation tools to advanced multimodal models that produce highly competent outputs across text, images, video, audio, and code. Generative AI is not just generating content and art and code, however. It also is generating tons of problems for business and society, especially when it comes to figuring out who owns the outputs produced by these systems. After all, individuals and companies are increasingly using generative AI to generate sophisticated, commercially valuable outputs.
Hey Elon, go ahead and ban Apple devices
Yesterday, following Apple's announcement of a partnership with OpenAI to integrate support for ChatGPT into the company's devices, Elon Musk did what he always does: he tweeted. The owner of X wrote, on X, that he would ban Apple devices at his companies "If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level.". And to that I say: Go right ahead. And while you're at it, remove your company's software from Apple's App Store too. Musk's companies (at least the major ones) currently include Tesla, SpaceX, X, X AI and Neuralink.
Snapchat has released its own AI. Is it just a Chat-GPT rip-off orโฆ
Snapchat, the popular social network has joined the artificial intelligence (AI) bandwagon by launching a new chatbot named "My AI." The company announced that it has customized the latest version of OpenAI's GPT technology for its users. The new chatbot will be an experimental feature for Snapchat, the social network's subscription service, which costs $3.99 per month. According to Snapchat, My AI is designed to help answer trivia questions, plan a hiking trip, recommend a recipe for dinner, or write a haiku about cheese for your cheddar-obsessed friend. The chatbot has been trained to have a unique voice and personality that aligns with its values of "friendship, learning, and fun."
DSC Webinar Series: Who Should Own AI & Data Science Programs in Your Organization?

How To: Make Your Own AI
Please join us this evening as we discuss how to make your own AI and AI apps. Following is a brief agenda for the evening: 6:00 - 6:30 PM: Doors open for networking and pizza 6:30 - 7:00 PM: Presentation by Suren and Mohamed 7:00 - 7:30 PM: Presentation by Cody 7:30 - 8:00 PM - Q&A and Networking Forward-thinking businesses are using AI to gain greater insights, make more accurate predictions and use AI to create new and compelling products and services. Across industries, AI is having a positive impact including drug discovery in pharmaceutical to cure diseases, sepsis detection in healthcare to save lives, supply chain transportation optimization to take costs out in manufacturing, fraud detection in banking to save money, subscriber churn predictions in telecoms to retain customers and personalized policies in insurance to delight consumers. Every industry stands to benefit from AI in their business. In this meetup, we will discuss how domain experts and advanced data scientists can make their own AI by writing their own recipes and seamlessly extending H2O Driverless AI with their favorite tools from the rich ecosystem of open-source data science and machine learning libraries.
Council Post: 2020 And The Dawn Of AI Learning At The Edge
With countless predictions about what's in store for artificial intelligence in 2020, I'm eager to see what will come true and what will fall by the wayside. I think that one of the more paradigm-changing predictions will be moving AI's learning ability to the edge. Under the hood of AI's generic name, a variety of approaches are hidden, spanning from huge models that crunch data on a distributed cloud infrastructure to tiny, edge-friendly AI that analyze and mine data on small processors. From my academic research at Boston University to cofounding Neurala, I have always been keenly aware of the difference between these two types of AI--let's call them "heavy" and "light" AI. Heavy AI requires hefty compute substrates to run, while light AI can do what heavy AI is capable of but on smaller compute power.
Would You Want A Personal AI That Knows Everything About You? - Liwaiwai
A couple years ago I took part in a marketing video where I was recorded answering questions about my career path, interests, and goals. The next day, the videographer offered to show me the footage, so I took him up on it. As I watched myself, I became dismayed. My eyes darted from left to right instead of looking into the camera. And my head did this weird, reflexive sort of mini-nod whenever I said something I felt strongly about.

AI Foundation launches Personal AI avatars
Buttler asked Branson's AI how he thought AI will help us build a better future. 'I'd rather hear what you think,' replied Branson's voice. 'What do you think your AI's mission is?' Branson's avatar explained: 'My AI's mission is to advocate for positive change and to help address the problems of the world. The path to change is young, committed people,' it continued. 'Exploring less traditional ways of how we use education is key to stimulating change.
